Week 11

The Account of the Compass was an interesting read of what seemed like a type of mixed media. I enjoyed how the author mixed both prose and poetry to describe very tense events. It hadn’t occurred to me how peralice the journey would be, until I was reading through his first hand account. I feel like Wen’s indecision is a staple of this account, and how they originally got into this mess. Even though this is a first hand account I feel like it can also be interpreted as a cautionary tale about indecision. But I also think that the original problem of them being at Yang-Zhou, was a stupid problem to have, since the Military Commissioner there wanted Wen killed, so why would he escape there? I feel like this might not have been a good decision on his part.

Even though the prose and the poems tell the same story, it’s kind of odd and slightly repetitive that he would use both. I feel that if there were ideas or emotions not expressed in one but only in the other than needing both would be more necessary. Though both the poetry and prose are beautiful, I find that they are not both needed. Beyond the writing itself, this shows the end of the Song Dynasty and people who were attempting to fight for it. Nearing the end it seemed there were very few people who wanted the Dynasty to continue, and due to this it inevitably fell.

For other tasks I have to wash my laundry and hangout with my bird, even though the second one is always fun I’m still procrastinating. I feel that if I do these things I will never finish my work.
